Kanda Yuu one shot - Go On Without Us

“Move beansprout.” A low voice said. You turned and looked, sure enough Allen was stood in Kanda’s way, and the Japanese exorcist did not look happy. Allen, irritation showing on his kind face, moved and Kanda strode past into their compartment.
You were no stranger to working with Kanda, you both had sword type innocence, and he didn’t seem to mind you too much. Well basically, Kanda hadn’t tried to kill you during their first mission together, so Kumoi paired you together quite often. Allen and Lavi though, you didn’t get to work with them very often, and you were hoping that Kanda would be in a better mood so you would be able to enjoy your time with them a bit before you reached your destination. However, if it was even possible, Kanda seemed to be in a worse mood than usual.
“Everything ok Kanda?” You asked, looking into the compartment. He was sat by the window staring off into the distance. You knew this mission had barely any details… much less than usual and no doubt it had Kanda on edge.
“Fine, Coraline.” He voice was cutting, and you gave him a small smile before leaving him to his thoughts. That wasn’t a mood you could fix.
*
“It’s a hotel.” You said, looking up at the tall building.
“Not just a hotel.” Lavi said, standing behind you and putting both hands on your shoulders, “an old haunted abandoned hotel!” You laughed a little at his attempt to scare you, and then began walking. Kanda fell into step beside you, and silence fell over the little group. Drawing your blade a little to steady yourself, you pushed open the door and walked inside. There was nothing. The room was empty.
“Maybe we should split up?” Lavi suggested.
“No,” you replied, “we stick together.”
No one protested, and you continued walking. You didn’t meet anything until you reached the third floor, and that was when they struck.
Akuma after akuma, you had a hard time keeping track of all the movement. Allens left eye had activated, and you could tell the amount of akuma had him dizzied. You slashed with your sword and saw Lavi burn akuma with his hammer. You sliced and saw Kanda decapitate Akuma. You blocked and saw Allen- allen was in trouble. An akuma was at his throat, and another was creeping up behind him, if allen didn’t get out of that mess soon….
With a grunt you killed the akuma you were fighting and hurled your sword at the akuma on top of allen, killing it. “Behind you!” You yelled, and Allen turned, killing the akuma creeping up on him. You looked back to where your sword was and saw that it was missing. Ice ran through your veins, and you heard a cackle.
“Looking for thissssss? Little exorcisssst?” A level three dangled your sword high above the floor, and your blood boiled to see your innocence in the hands of such a creature.
“That doesn’t belong to you.” You said, fighting to keep your voice level.
“Findersss keepersss, looserssss weepersssss.” It hissed, laughing again at the end. You began to lunge yourself at it when you saw it make a move and suddenly you were flying through the air. Gasping you lifted yourself up and looked back, a net of energy separated you from your comrades. It was just you and a group of akuma. You fought as well as you could, but without your innocence…. you heard a clatter, a familiar clatter. Not looking you rushed over and picked up the sword. The akuma died in a heartbeat, and only then did you look down.
Mugen. You looked through the net where Kanda’s dark eyes were looking at you.
“Go on Cora! Get the level three and get this barrier down! We can handle this over here!” Lavi yelled, killing more akuma. You nodded at Kanda and ran after the level three, feeling his eyes following you the whole time.
You stood the level three, “Lower the barrier!”
“Make meeee little exorcisssst! Make meeee!”
Your hands gripped tighter around Mugens hilt, alright Mugen, lets do this.
You ached, and had so many cuts that your whole body had gone numb, but none of that mattered as you made a final slice and watched as its head fell.
You knew that the barrier would now be lowered, and as you fell to the ground and curled yourself around mugen, you could only hope that its owner would find you.
*
You awoke on a bed, Lavi and Allen were in chairs around your bed. They were sleeping, so it was obvious you had been there a while. Wincing, you stood and crept out of the room. You stumbled along the wall, falling every now and then until an arm caught you, and helped you to your room. You knew the smell, the way of walking, the silence.
You knew it was Kanda.
He set you on your bed and then turned to leave, until he felt a small hand wrap around his own.
“Why Kanda? Why did you give me your Innocence?”
                Silence
“It was foolish! You could have died without it!”
“You had no innocence. You would have died.”
“I would have thought of some-”
“YOU WOULD HAVE DIED!” Kanda rounded on you, and you could feel his harsh breath on your face before he leaned down and captured your lips with his. You staggered, but then pushed back against him. His hands wrapped around your waist, ignoring your bite of protest when he pressed too hard on a wound.
You broke apart, and heard only the sounds of your rough breathing.
“Get some rest.” His voice rumbled, as he turned and left, leaving only a smile on your lips.
